With two distinct seasons, the hot and humid southern summer from November to April and the cooler and drier southern winter from May to October, along with great sunshine throughout the year, Mauritius offers an ideal and pleasant year-round climate for a successful holiday.

The main weather seasons in Mauritius
Even though there are four seasons in Mauritius, the climate is divided into two main ones: the southern summer and its counterpart, the southern winter.
The southern summer is generally hot and humid, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C, notably in the capital Port Louis and the west coast due to the position of the sun in the afternoon and a very high humidity level. These are also optimal conditions for the occurrence of tropical cyclones between December and April, which, however, are relatively occasional.
The shorter southern winter months correspond to the so-called dry season, with a warm and mostly dry climate (on average 24° Celsius). The days are clear, the sky is very bright and the temperatures cool down in the evening (up to 17°C on the highlands).

During the southern summer, it is very hot and humid with rains that can sometimes be stormy, sudden and very short but which help to avoid the heat with temperatures that can reach 34°. Sea temperatures are very pleasant, with water temperatures of around 27°C, perfect for water sports.
The dry season, corresponding to the winter months, runs from May to October. The climate is hot and dry. This is the season of high pressure systems, mainly from the southern currents from Antarctica, which rise towards the warm currents of the Indian Ocean, providing surf, kite and windfoil enthusiasts with optimal conditions to enjoy their sport. – the optimal conditions to indulge their passion.
Is there an ideal time to visit Mauritius? The climate is very pleasant all year round and the conditions are ideal for a successful holiday. However, the peak tourist season is mainly over the summer months, so it is often recommended to visit Mauritius during the months of May to December. It all depends on what you are looking for: relaxing in the sun and enjoying the paradisiacal beaches and crystal clear lagoons of Mauritius, exploring the island, practicing board sports…
The weather in Mauritius from January to May
The summer which started in November is in full swing and the weather is ideal for those who wish to bask in the sun and enjoy swimming in the crystal clear waters at 27°. The sunshine is at its maximum, the days are beautiful and warm and the sunsets are just amazing. It is also big game fishing season and the ideal time for boat trips.
The risk of cyclonic formation is there but is closely monitored by the meteorological services of the Indian Ocean region.
Rainfall can be very high during the first three months, but it is usually limited to the central plateaus and not much to the coasts.
The weather from June to September in Mauritius
Escape the scorching heat of Europe for a cooler and more pleasant climate! Mauritius winters are generally mild and dry, with temperatures between 17° and 25°. The sea temperature drops to 20°. This is the low tourist season, so boating, land-based and cultural activities are less frequented. Why not make the most of the humpback whale migration to spot them?
The weather from October to December in Mauritius
This is one of the most pleasant periods of the southern summer, with low rainfall, temperatures around 27°, a perfect warm sea, the first summer fruits and magnificent tree blooms, such as the flamboyants.
