St Michel’s Day and regatta in Grand Gaube

The atmosphere was festive this Sunday, September 29, in Grand-Gaube. The village celebrated St Michel with a regatta and cultural activities organized by the village council and the local community. The St. Michael’s Day is held every year and attracts many Catholics from all over the island. The festivities commemorate the king of archangels, angels’ servants and envoys of God, including Saint-Michel, Saint-Gabriel and Saint-Raphaël.

The Regatta of traditional canoes of Grand Gaube takes place every year on the day of Saint Michael. A major event that attracts nearly 5000 Mauritian and summer spectators who come to support and admire a colorful race, which Mythic Suites & Villas officially sponsored.

Only traditional sailing canoes can participate in this fabulous Regatta. Competitors from all over Mauritius find themselves defending the colors of their village. It goes without saying that the teams from the North are strongly defending their ranking.
