In November the Mauritius Triathlon, the Indian Ocean Triathlon, will take place at the southwestern tip of the island. The ideal event to end a sporting season in style! Let’s face it, the Indian Ocean Triathlon is considered one of the most beautiful triathlons in the world.
You have to go to the foot of Le Morne in Mauritius to understand what makes this triathlon so famous: a lagoon with crystal clear waters, filled with fish and corals of all kinds and colors, with Le Morne Brabant as a backdrop, and this “underwater waterfall” effect one of Mauritius’ signatures.
Every year the participants hurry to reserve their bib to participate. As we close these lines there are still a few places left… so it may not be too late.
The Indian Ocean Triathlon course includes nearly 70 km of competition divided into 1.8 km of swimming, 55 km of cycling and 12 km of running.
The start of the race is on the beach of Le Morne at the foot of Le Morne Brabant. The participants throw themselves into the Indian Ocean and go for 1800 meters of swimming in clear water surrounded by a wide variety of fish species and vegetation in a thousand and one colors. According to the participants, none of them have ever swum in such an idyllic setting. Struggle and pain will soon be forgotten!
Breathtaking landscapes will animate the second stage of the 55 km cycling tour. Different gradients will increase the intensity of the trip, but after a few pedals: lagoons, sugar cane and pineapple fields, coconut trees, the village of Bel Omble, Baie du Cap, will reward your efforts. The highly emblematic place of this event is the Chamarel pass.
The Chamarel Pass? Famous for its 7-colored land and its magnificent waterfall gushing out of lush vegetation. It is a natural site composed of small hills of different tones, undulations of the terrain ranging from tawny to orange, passing through ochre. Something to motivate the participants!
To finish off on a high note, the run will be the last stage with 12 km to cover between beaches and paths with a mythical finish. The loop is closed at the foot of Le Morne on the beach.
