Beach cleaning operation: the first results

  • 14/08/2021

According to Mark Twain, the beauty of Mauritius is of divine origin. However, the preservation of its beautiful beaches is everyone’s responsibility. Conscious of our duties towards our communities – travellers, residents, neighbours – we have subscribed to the Signatir agreement engaging us to carry out eco-responsible and sustainable actions. That’s why Mythic Suites & Villas employees put on their gloves and clean up the beaches around our resort monthly.   Preserving life Mauritius is fortunately spared from the pollution of plastic objects of all kinds that can be found in other islands. The marine flora and fauna are of great diversity but remain vulnerable to all forms of pollution. Unfortunately, the decomposition of plastic is extremely long: a plastic bag will take 450 years to decompose. If left on a beach or carried by the wind into the sea, it will be swallowed in micro-particles by fish and seabirds or could kill a sea turtle. A soft drink can will rust and a glass bottle could injure a summer visitor. A cigarette butt carelessly dropped into the sand takes between 1 and 2 years to disappear. Aware of the expectations of our customers, our teams at Mythic Suites & Villas clean the beaches around our resort monthly.   Sustainability as a goal Sustainability is a socio-ecological process characterised by a behaviour in the pursuit of a collective vision. To engage in a sustainable project is to choose to preserve and to keep the environment healthy. As the beaches are the image of Mauritius but also the vulnerable habitat of its fauna and flora, their monthly cleaning ensures that the travellers keep on enjoying them.  July’s Green Day campaign On 9 July, our volunteers, with great dedication and a strong awareness of the issue, collected and tidied up the beautiful Melville beach in Grand-Gaube. This secluded beach on weekdays is visited by more people at weekends. In total, more than 200 kg of waste of all kinds were collected and sorted out by two teams: Go Green and Phoenix. To motivate the volunteers, a challenge for the best collection team has been organized until December.  Involving the relevant partners Thanks to this successful initiative, the clean-up operation will be repeated every month. However, we would like to involve more people in the collection process, particularly by taking action at source. The idea is to raise awareness among the villagers, and especially among young people who pay more attention to ecology and are aware of our shared responsibility, to preserve the environment through education.   The island character of Mauritius makes it particularly vulnerable to all forms of pollution. It is always possible to do something about it. By adopting the proper habits, by limiting our footprint, by cleaning up the places we have visited and enjoyed, we actively participate in improving the natural beauty of our beloved country.

The view of the northern islands, Coin de Mire, Ile Plate, Ile Ronde and Ile Serpent, as well as the ocean surrounding them, is breathtaking. Closer by and easily reached by boat, Bernache and Gabriel islands offer an enchanting interlude with wild coves and sandy beaches for a Robinson experience.   Take one of the paths that leave the village to face the lagoon on the beautiful Esplanade beach. Have a picnic in the North and The East

  • 12/07/2021

It’s a lovely day and you’re longing to spend some time with your partner or family on the north or east coast of Mauritius. We have the ideal plan for you: a tasty picnic on an uncrowded beach, where you can relax under the shade of a beach umbrella or on a towel and have a great time, without having to worry about anything.  Order your picnic at the Atelier RestaurantThe day before, order your picnic from our Concierge. L’Atelier Restaurant of your Mythic Suites&Villas resort, has a varied and tasty choice of traditional Mauritian and international dishes. Our Chef Vijendra Kundun will be glad to prepare a delicious lunch to take away and enjoy during your relaxing day. Looking for something fresh? Our Niçoise, Mythic Caesar or Angel Hair salads will delight you. Should the kids fancy a burger or a panini, let them enjoy it, it’s their holiday too! The Atelier Restaurant team will prepare your lunch basket, cutlery and drinks, be it a delicious sandwich or a special of the day. Drive to one of the three beaches we have chosen for you for their natural beauty and peaceful surroundings.  Mont Choisy beachThis vast bay with its crystal-clear waters is perfect for a day at the beach. More than a kilometre of white sand shores of turquoise water, perfect for swimming or exploring the seabed. Located on the north coast, just past the village of Grand-Baie and twenty minutes from Mythic Suites&Villas, it is well sheltered. Under the filaos, you can sit and enjoy your picnic in the shade after a swim. You will find coconut vendors, who sell delicious refreshments.   Belle-MareThe east coast of Mauritius is wilder and offers more privacy, especially during the week. More exposed to the wind, it combines secluded coves and beautiful lagoons. The emerald colour of the sea is amazing and the air is wonderfully iodised. Twenty-five minutes by car from your holiday suite or villa, it is an ideal and truly magical change of scenery. Belle-Mare is a picturesque tropical beach where you can spend an unforgettable day and pick up beautiful sea shells. The seabed is also worth exploring, with its unique flora and fauna. You will probably meet a fisherman on his way to or from fishing: now that you have learnt some Kreol expressions, feel free to engage in conversation and have a local fisherman tell you all about the fish that can be found in our seas. After a picnic and a nap in the shade, visit the old limestone ovens that are still visible on the coast and that were once used to build houses.  Poste-LafayettePoste Lafayette is a wild and preserved paradise. It has a very out-of-the-ordinary atmosphere, a kind of tropical indolence reminiscent of Mauritius in the 1960s. A small coastal village near Belle-Mare, it cultivates pommes d’amour (small acidic tomatoes), garlic tails and corn. Very much protected from mass tourism, it has a superb beach, between mangrove and coconut trees, and plenty of great picnicking spots. The turquoise sea is exposed to the trade winds and sometimes has a slight swell and current, so be careful and explore the rock formations, which are home to a prehistoric flat purple sea urchin that clings to the rock and sometimes beautiful porcelain (remember: no shells are collected alive). The sand crusts under your feet, the sun caresses your skin, there is no one else around and a tasty picnic awaiting you. You will really enjoy this Robinson break in this beautiful setting!   On the way back from Belle-Mare or Poste-Lafayette, visit the stunning Sagar Shiv Mandir temple at Poste de Flacq, built on an islet, the island of Goyave de Chine is easily accessible by a dyke. The place is very religious and its visit is a great way to end this fabulous day.   To add the final touch to this unforgettable day of discovery, savour the 100% homemade Rhum Arrangé of your Concierges and then relax by the pool, with a soft musical background…

Where to play golf in the North ?

  • 27/06/2021

Mauritius is an internationally renowned destination for its excellent golf courses designed by international players and renowned architects such as Langer and Matkovich. Most are professional 18-hole par 72 courses suitable for experienced players and there are also 9-hole courses for a gentle introduction. All the courses on the island are spectacularly integrated into beautiful landscapes and offer, in addition to their technical qualities and features, splendid views of the lagoons and mountains. The favorable climate in Mauritius allows golf to be played all year round. If you are staying at Mythic Suites & Villas, these are the four golf courses we recommend for an extraordinary golfing experience.  Experienced player? Swing to the Mont Choisy Le Golf   The only 18-hole championship golf course in the north of the island is located just outside Grand Bay, a fifteen-minute drive from Mythic Suites & Villas, in the heart of an historical estate. Designed by Peter Matkovich, a famous South African architect, Mont Choisy le Golf is well suited to both professional and amateur golfers. With its many slopes, native vegetation, ponds and bunkers, it is a challenging course for all players with stunning views over the lagoon. Mont Choisy’s unique layout features a variety of holes suited to golfers who master a well-defined playing strategy and precise ball placement. Between wide fairways, undulating greens and bunkers, the course promises to be exciting for those who love a challenge. Spectacular on a small island: Île Aux Cerfs Golf Club   Regarded as one of the 10 most beautiful golf courses in the world by Golf World Magazine, Île Aux Cerfs Golf Club, designed by Bernhard Langer, is located on a heavenly islet surrounded by the pristine lagoons of the east coast of Mauritius, just fifteen minutes’ drive from your resort. It is accessible by boat for a unique and unforgettable experience. The course is challenging but exciting with many challenges and difficulties. The view is amazing with an unforgettable golf experience on a beautiful island!   The top of the line: Four Seasons Golf Club Mauritius at Anahita   Located on the east coast of Mauritius, 20 minutes’ drive from the mythic Suites & Villas, the Four Seasons Golf Club Mauritius at Anahita is a splendid golf course. It is probably the most beautiful course Ernie Els has ever designed. With its native flora and fauna, surrounded by lush green mountains and crystal-clear waters, it has wide fairways, 5 teeing areas and 18 holes. The challenges and satisfaction are guaranteed on these manicured greens. A special tribute to the 6 ocean front holes for an unforgettable finish! (https://golf.anahitamauritius.com/ )   Just starting out? Head for the Maritim Golf Club   The Maritim Golf Club is located in the north-west of Mauritius, twenty-five minutes from your resort. The course, designed by Graham Marsh, is ideal for beginners and is surrounded by palm trees and beautiful exotic plants. It is a practice golf course suitable for all players. It features an incredible range of heights and angles and a wide choice of playing options to suit different levels of difficulty and to be enjoyed by all. How to book your golf session in Mauritius?   Whether you are traveling with your clubs because of the excellent reputation of the golf courses in Mauritius or you want to take advantage of your stay to learn, you will be completely satisfied with your golfing experience. Explore the North of the island on a scooter in 3 steps

  • 21/06/2021

Now that you are in the comfort of your hotel resort, Mythic Suites & Villas, you can enjoy the first few days of your dream holiday and relax. But Mauritius is awaiting you and you long to discover the north-east coast at your own pace, to suit your mood? Scooters are made for you! Here are three suggested excursions to do in three steps without riding for miles.    Step 1: Traditional pirogue crafting. The village of Grand-Gaube, where Mythic Suites & Villas is located, is one of the last remaining villages where traditional pirogues are still made according to ancestral know-how. You don’t have to go far to find the beautiful wooden frames turned upside down. In the Saint-Joseph neighbourhood, you can watch the carpenters at work, patiently crafting the boats, which are carved from jackfruit wood for its robustness, and where elbow grease is used to the full. Marvel at the delicate arcing of the wood, the polishing and the perfect curves of the future pirogue. As the traditional pirogue is gradually being replaced by the resin boat, the discovery of the last pirogue building sites remains an unforgettable and highly nostalgic activity to be experienced at the beginning of your scooter tour.    Take the time to stroll through the quiet streets of this sun-drenched coastal village. Its unique atmosphere and authentic charm will appeal to visitors, and from the beach you can contemplate the breathtaking views of the northern islands.  Step 2 : Cap-Malheureux Let’s stay on the coastal road of Grand-Gaube and ride inland a bit to head north. This will take you through the cane fields, undulating nicely under the trade winds. You then pass Calodyne, a pretty little bay and “Butte à l’Herbe” beach. Stay on the B14 road until you reach the junction with the B13 towards Cap Malheureux. You will again drive along the sea where the turquoise and emerald colours of the South Seas will amaze you. Cross “Anse la Raie” whose legend you now know and you are now in the most photographed village in Mauritius, Cap Malheureux.  This small coastal village is named after the numerous shipwrecks that occurred on its steep and sometimes treacherous coasts. It is also the symbolic landing place of the English who took possession of Mauritius in 1810. It has an old marine cemetery with ancient graves. A must-see stop on the spot, and one that appears on most of the best-selling postcards, is the pretty church, whose red roof and bell tower stand out against the clear, opaline waters of the lagoon. You can take this opportunity to taste a delicious coconut opened in front of you. Watch the dexterity of the vendor as he cuts with his machette, a small spoon from the coconut to eat the delicate pulp. The sight of the pirogues swaying in the sea makes you dream of open seas. As you’ve seen them being built, you’ll love the names given to them and marvel at the patience of the old fisherman who is pulling in his huge net. Have a swim in the warm, fishy waters of Cap Malheureux before heading back to Grand Bay for lunch. Don’t forget to ask the conciergerie to book your excursion to the northern islands.Step 3 : Stunning Grand-Baie The seaside village of Grand-Baie is the hub of the north and is alive day and night. It is the tourist Mecca of Mauritius, with a plethora of bars, discotheques and above all restaurants where you can taste a wide range of Mauritian and international cuisine. It is also the ideal starting point for a number of excursions and water sports activities. Park your scooter and go for a walk to explore its lively streets and shopping centres. Grand Bay is renowned for its high-end shopping and international fashion brands. The beautiful bay has clear turquoise waters on a sandy beach. But choose a less frequented motorboat beach for swimming. However, try the local food specialities in the small stalls facing the bay (rotis, faratas, dholl puris, candied fruits…). They also sell take-aways, to be savoured on the beach. Should you be less daring and more classic? You’re spoilt for choice all around you, with restaurants serving Creole, Chinese, Indian, Italian and cosmopolitan cuisine. Take the time to read the menus, choose the most beautiful view of the bay and enjoy your meal!   The exploration of the north of Mauritius is ideal for scooters. Don’t forget that we drive on the left side of the road and respect priorities. Always wear your helmet and drive carefully. Take your time to fully appreciate this ride.
