Half nautical, half aerial, kitesurfing allows you to slide on water, surf waves, jump several meters above water or break speed records. Kitesurfing gives you sensations of speed, power, and freedom. It is a true face-to-face encounter with nature in these two elements: water and wind.
Thanks to its temperate tropical climate, Mauritius is a true kitesurfing paradise almost all year round. Accessible to riders of all levels, Mauritius and its 300 km of coastline offer you incredible spots that you can discover during your stay on this magical island. A dream destination for freeride and freestyle lovers…
There are several kitesurfing spots in the north of Mauritius, you don’t need to travel to another part of the island if you have chosen the north as your holiday destination. The northern lagoon offers a very smooth body of water and a breathtaking view of the northern islands. The wind is traditionally a little stronger there than on the East Coast. Here are some of the most beautiful kitesurfing spots in northern Mauritius:
Anse la Raie offers perfect sailing conditions for kitesurfing. Between the wind and wide-open spaces, this spot is ideal for learning, freeriding, racing or freestyle. Great spaces, family atmosphere, fun, freedom, discovery, friendship and a good time. The lagoon is 3 kilometers long. It joins the reef which forms a barrier separating it from the open sea which extends for more than 20 kilometers along the east coast, making it an ideal place for downwinders and excursions of all kinds.
Cap Malheureux offers a very smooth stretch of water but is not recommended for beginners due to the difficult start and the presence of boats. Access to the beach is via passages between houses, which are sometimes difficult to find. It is better to ask the inhabitants for information: they will be happy to show you the way. This spot has shallow and smooth water, and is almost always good for kitesurfing, regardless of wind direction.
Bain Bœuf is located on the northern tip of Mauritius between the tourism village of Grand Baie and the village of Cap Malheureux. Not very suitable for swimming because of the presence of rocks and sailboats, Bain Bœuf beach offers a breathtaking view of the lagoon and the offshore Coin de Mire. This spot is ideal for kitesurfing on good days with northwest or southwest winds.
